Review Continued...
The two big bonuses of the Barclaycard OnePulse credit card for people living in London are the inbuilt Oyster card and the OneTouch payment option, both features which help to make your life just that bit easier.
Oyster card
With the inbuilt Oyster card, Barclaycard helps you to reduce the bulge in your wallet or purse, and once again, with all you need on one card, helps to make your life less complicated.
With the Barclaycard OnePulse credit card, you can choose to set up Auto Top-Up for your Oyster card, so that when your balance gets below £5, your pay as you go balance will automatically be topped up by either £20 or £40.
If you already have an Oyster card and wish to transfer the balance, you can contact the Oyster helpline on 0845 330 9876 or through the website: www.tfl.gov.uk/oyster.
It should be noted however, that certain season tickets cannot be transferred and you may have to wait for them to expire before you load a new one onto the Barclaycard OnePulse credit card.
OneTouch
The OneTouch payment system has been developed to make paying for items under £10 a lot quicker and easier.
Now in over 1000 London shops and stores, OneTouch enables you to pay for items without entering your PIN or having to root around for small change - all you have to do is touch the card against a secure reader.
Barclaycard also provides 100% fraud protection for all OneTouch transactions, making it a very secure and very quick way to pay.
0% balance transfers
Barclaycard offer two OnePulse credit cards; this one and one offering 0% purchases for 6 months.
This Barclaycard OnePulse credit card offers a 14-month long 0% balance transfer deal instead.
14-months sets this balance transfer deal as one of the best on the market, although there is still the standard transfer fee, 2.9% for this card, and a maximum transfer amount of £5,000 (standard on all Barclaycards).
One thing to bear in mind with this balance transfer deal is that due to way payments will be applied to your cheapest rate transactions first - using this card for a 0% balance transfer and then spending on the card is not advised.
Any spending made in addition to a balance transfer will attract interest and any payments will only go towards clearing the balance transfer - until it's paid back in full.
This means, if you want a good 0% balance transfer credit card get a different one to this, and then get this card purely for it's 'around-London' features (or the other OnePulse credit card and get 0% on purchases for 6 months instead of 3).
Free travel insurance and services
Barclaycard issues free travel insurance to their customers when trips abroad are booked through the Barclaycard Travel Service.
This free insurance lasts for up to 21 days and covers up to six people, if all are under 65 and in good health. However, for the over 65s, Barclaycard still offers a discount of £35, so if your travel insurance comes to £35 or below, you will get it for free.
Barclaycard have teamed up with Thomas Cook to waive the 2.25% credit card booking fee for holidays, and also offer a 7% discount on the tour operator price of the holiday.
As standard with Barclaycard, they offer fast help if you happen to lose your credit card whilst away from home, and provide an Emergency Card and Cash Replacement service. The emergency card can be issued within three working days to anywhere in the world.
As a Barclaycard customer, you can receive 24-hour worldwide assistance wherever you are. Barclaycard will help you find an English speaking doctor or lawyer if need be, and they can even help you to send a message home - be it an emergency or if you've just forgotten to cancel the newspapers.
Purchase and fraud protection
Barclaycard offer purchase delivery protection on goods bought online, on the phone, or on the high street when delivered to your home, meaning that you're covered for anything that arrives damaged, or worse still, doesn’t arrive at all.
Protection against fraud is also provided with services such as active fraud monitoring, identity protection service and Barclaycard Secure.
Helping you to keep your payments up to date, Barclaycard also offer a free text alert service, letting you know when your payments are due, yet again helping to lessen the load.
Final Word
The Barclaycard OnePulse with Balance Transfer credit card is one of the most practical credit cards for people living in London.
The credit card lightens the load in more ways than one, giving you more room in your wallet, less to worry about with Barclaycard's payment text alerts, and you can make quick and easy purchases with the OneTouch chip.
If you don't need a balance transfer (or are able to get one elsewhere - which is recommended so you can spend freely on the OnePulse card) check out the alternative Barclaycard OnePulse credit card that offers exactly the same features, except you get an extra 3 months at 0% for new purchases (just no balance transfer deal).
