IN short, it depends on the football team you support. If your team has made it to the Premiership then you are in luck – as all premiership teams have football credit cards in association with MBNA Bank [See: Premiership football credit cards].
You can also get a Barclays Premier League football credit card in the form of the Barclaycard Football credit card.
If your football club is still fighting it’s way up the leagues tables, then you can still get your mitts on a football credit card without having to support your rivals!
You can choose to opt for the England Football Association credit card (in partnership with MBNA) and have your spending generate funds for football in England at all levels.
What do football credit cards offer?
Football credit cards are a great way for football supporters to help give something back to their teams without having to do anything apart from using the football credit card for purchases.
Football credit cards also often offer rewards for you as well, allowing you to earn points or enter prize draws for football merchandise, tickets and experiences.
When you use your football credit card all you need to remember is:
- You can use the card as you normally would any other credit card.
- Every time you spend on the card your team will receive a contribution funded by the card’s issuing bank.
- You may earn reward points on all your spending too – redeemable for stuff like football merchandise, entertainment, shopping, travel, prize draw entries.
- You can often enjoy special football benefits such as discounts and offers.
Supporting your favourite football team
Whether or not you will be able to support your favourite football team with a credit card depends on which team you support. Unfortunately, at present, you cannot get credit cards to support non-premiership and local football teams. However, if you are an avid supporter of a premiership football team you will be able to use a credit card to support them.
You will find credit cards available to help you support the England team as a whole, as well as to support premiership teams, such as Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester United, Newcastle United, and other premiership football teams [See the full list of football team credit cards].
However, if you do want to contribute to your favourite sport but do not support any of the premiership teams, don’t despair - you can also opt for an England team credit card, which means that you will still be contributing towards football in England.
Can I get a football credit card?
As with any other credit card, your eligibility to get a football team credit card will depend on far more than whether or not you support the team.
The usual eligibility requirements will apply, and this includes your age, financial status, income, outgoings, and credit rating. MBNA issued football credit cards (all the Premiership teams and the England FA) require you to be at least 18 years of age and UK resident.
