Using your credit card...

Budget your income so your bank pays the football contributions and you make the most from your rewards!
With any credit card it's always best to repay your balance each month, although it's not always possible, it's still a good idea to budget your income and keep on top of your spending.

If you are transferring a balance to a football credit card you should also try to budget your income so that you can steadily begin to repay your outstanding balance.

Always paying your balance off in full each month will mean that you won't be charged any interest on your purchases, and the football contributions made to your football team will be coming from your bank's pocket and not via your interest charges.

With any reward credit card, you'll always be gaining more from the rewards when they aren't costing you anything, so repaying your balance each month can mean you can enjoy your football rewards and discounts knowing they didn't cost you a penny!

Be careful with balance transfers
If you are transferring a balance to a football credit card to make use of a 0% balance transfer deal, unless the card also offers 0% on purchases for the same length of time, remember to repay your balance transfer before you start using your football credit card for purchases.

To explain this briefly, if the introductory period on purchases is shorter than the balance transfer deal, any outstanding purchases at the end of the purchase introductory period will return to the standard interest rate and due to payments being allocated first to 0% rates, you may not be able to repay your purchase balance until you have first repaid your 0% balance transfer deal.

Try to avoid cash transactions
Cash transactions made with a credit card are subject to higher interest rates and fees so we always advise using a debit card for any cash transactions that you may need to make.

Cash transactions include cash withdrawals, getting 'cash back' at the supermarket, buying foreign currency and traveller's cheques and now also include gambling transactions.

If you really need to use a credit card for a cash transaction, try and use a low cash advance rate credit card, which offer lower interest rates on cash transactions and some cards don't charge a fee either.

Make the most of your card...

Increasing your football contributions and your reward earnings
If your football credit card offers both football contributions to your football club and offers you rewards too, all your purchases will be earning your team funds and rewards for you too.

You can increase the earnings made on your football credit card by using your football credit card for all your everyday spending like your weekly shopping and buying petrol. You can also use your football credit card to pay for all your household bills and direct debits, if your service provider allows you to pay by credit card.

Another way to increase your football contributions and earn more rewards for yourself is to get an additional card for your immediate family, like your partner. However, it is important you trust their spending and know what they spend will be repaid each month.
